That adds to the predictability of the plot. Today the winner is preset and it's only about how will he win the girl. Gone are the days when love triangles were about who will win the girl. However the attempt to camouflage the conventionalism of the screenplay through Kangana's nonconformist character, who smokes, drinks and abuses, doesn't work. Add to that Kangana Ranaut's rebellious and outgoing character is evocative of Kareena Kapoor's Geet from the film. Also the second half has a strong Jab We Met hangover. The love triangle in Tanu Weds Manu is as archaic as SRK's Pardes, Dil To Pagal Hai or Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Madhavan's self-sacrificing character is evidently modeled on the lines of Shah Rukh Khan from these films. Projecting this film as a love story about today's youth is as much senseless as beeping the constant profanities in the dialogues (making it more evident). Though heartbroken, Manu plays the selfless Shahrukh prototype and offers to make things simpler for the duo. While Manu is smitten once again, Tanu reveals of her plans to elope with her boyfriend Raja ( Jimmy Sheirgill). Manu stumbles upon Tanu once again at a friend's wedding. Delhi boy Manoj Sharma aka Manu (Madhavan) is engaged to Kanpur girl Tanuja Trivedi aka Tanu (Kangana Ranaut).
